DakuGhar

Palitana, Gujarat, India

2,500 s.ft.

Designed over intimate and long discussions for the late genius, Hanif Quereshi, DakuGhar is an exploration of vernacular architecture reinterpreted for contemporary living.

Set in the arid landscapes of Gujarat, the house responds to its climate with passive cooling strategies, deep overhangs, and strategic ventilation corridors. The material palette is deeply rooted in local tradition- compressed earth blocks, rammed earth, lime plaster, and reclaimed wood provide both durability and an organic aesthetic. The spatial layout is organized around common spaces that serve as transitional spaces, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living.

Elements are carefully proportioned to harness natural light while minimizing heat gain, ensuring comfort throughout the seasons. By seamlessly integrating regional knowledge with modern design principles, DakuGhar creates an environment that is both timeless and sustainable.
